Services
At Taiga Forestry, we are experts in transforming and reclaiming land. We utilize innovative low-impact equipment to prepare and clear land for use.
As we expand our reach, we are excited to venture into new industries, bringing our expertise and innovative land-clearing and mulching techniques to a broader range of clients. Our tailored mulching and subsoiling solutions are designed to meet the specific needs of diverse sectors and industries, minimizing ecological impact while maximizing land value for sustainable development.
Industries We Serve
Agriculture
We convert underutilized or overgrown areas into productive farmland, enhancing crop production with sustainable practices.
Mining
Our land-clearing services prepare sites for exploration and development, facilitating safe and efficient mining operations.
Access Maintenance
We provide services to maintain access routes, ensuring reliable entry to remote areas for various operations.
Land Development
We support land developers in transforming raw land into valuable properties, ready for residential or commercial projects.
Homesteading
We help individuals and families establish sustainable homesteads by preparing land that supports self-sufficient living.
Mulching Services
Our winter and spring clearing services are foundational to our land reclamation efforts. This process uses specialized equipment to chop and evenly distribute organic material, enhancing soil health by incorporating organic matter and avoiding the soil disruption seen with traditional clearing methods that lead to erosion. Our mulching techniques are intentionally designed to be efficient and environmentally friendly to align with the unique climatic conditions of Northern Ontario.
Mulching vs. Traditional Clearing Methods
Mulching offers a more efficient and sustainable approach to land clearing compared to traditional methods. Traditional clearing often involves piling brush and vegetation, which then requires several years to dry before it can be burned. Additionally, when debris is pushed to the edges of a field, it occupies valuable space that could be used productively. Traditional clearing not only reduces the efficiency of the usable land but also can negatively impact the environment. *In many regions, burning slash piles is no longer permitted, and the trend is moving away from burning due to environmental risk and concern.
Seasonal Operations
At Taiga, we intentionally let nature guide our operations, following the four seasons in Canada to optimize our effectiveness:
Winter
We focus on access-oriented mulching projects, assisting in the development of mining infrastructure, power line clearing, and maintenance.
Spring
This is the prime time for initiating mulching for farmland conversion and development.
Summer
We wrap up mulching for farmland development and begin subsoiling to prepare the land further for agriculture.
Fall
We complete subsoiling and start preparations for the upcoming winter to repeat the cycle.
While this seasonal workflow is typical, we offer flexibility for urgent projects, adapting our strategies to overcome challenges posed by unpredictable weather conditions.
Unique Benefits
Seasonal Flexibility: Our services are tailored to operate effectively year-round, ensuring efficient land clearing in Northern Ontario’s unique climate.
Soil Health Preservation: Unlike conventional methods that strip nutrients, our mulching enriches the soil, fostering a healthier ecosystem conducive to agriculture.
Subsoiling Services
Subsoiling is an essential follow-up to mulching, designed to prepare the land thoroughly for agricultural use. This process involves deep tillage that breaks up compacted soil layers without turning over the soil, integrating mulched organic matter deeper into the earth. This enhances root decay, water infiltration, and aeration, creating a soil structure that supports healthy crop growth.
Unique Benefits
Enhanced Soil Preparation: Our subsoiling technique transforms previously unusable land into fertile, ready-to-farm fields efficiently, providing a seamless transition for agricultural producers.
Synergistic Approach: The combination of mulching followed by subsoiling offers a comprehensive solution for land reclamation, setting Taiga apart from competitors who may offer only singular services.
FAQ
-
Mulching is when you have a drum or disc with teeth or blades that spin or rotate very fast. The teeth then chew the wood and vegetation, leaving a carpet of mulch and wood chips behind.
-
Subsoiling is similar to mulching; you have a new head with a different drum and teeth spinning slower in the opposite direction to crunch up the roots and stumps below the ground, all the while breaking up the mulch that was left behind and evenly distributing it across the cleared area.
-
It’s a diesel-powered machine designed to do one thing: mulch as efficiently as possible. At Taiga, we use CMI-dedicated Mulchers, made right here in Canada.
-
The Great Northern Clay Belt is an expansive tract of fertile soil stretching from Cochrane District, Ontario, to Abitibi County, Quebec.
-
It depends on various factors, including growth density and age of trees/vegetation.
-
We generally have a preliminary call to discuss the suitability of your project. We then follow up with a site visit where we document the scope of the job and submit a proposal to the client for their consideration.
